Japanese Events in London: 8th - 14th June 2009

Tuesday, the 9th June 2009, there is a lecture at the Japan Society regarding Japanese Freemasonry. Japanese masons in the past were given full assistance by their English and European counterparts and this lecture will examine what it means to be in the Japanese Freemasonry.

Wednesday, the 10th June 2009, is the Japan Society Annual General Meeting, (AGM) at the Embassy of Japan. At this year's AGM, members are being asked to approve the adoption of a new set of articles of association which reflect new provisions of the Companies Act 2006.

Thursday, the 11th June 2009, is the Japan Society Annual Golf Tournament which will be held at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club. The Society hopes that members who are golfers will be able to participate. The Japanese Ambassador will be in attendance. The Japanese are notoriously bonkers about golf, paying huge club membership fees, obsessing over the correct equipment and even, during the high of the 1980s overheated economy, buying hole-in-one insurance to protect against the financial burden of having to give expensive gifts to your competitor, as is custom. So, if you are a keen golfer and a member of the Japan Society, you know what to do!

Also, on the same day, at the same organisation, we see the launch of the Japan Society Book Club. We teach Japanese culture to our students so we are obviously very interested in this club. The book club will be conducted in English but members can choose the language in which they prefer to read the book. The book club will be held regularly on the 2nd Thursday of the month with a planned break for August.
