Japanese events in London: 28th September - 4th October 2009

One of our primary functions of our Japanese language school in London is to promote Japanese culture. This Wednesday is the deadline for the Japan Society Awards 2009. The Japan Society Awards are presented each year to mark significant work in the field of UK Japan relations which has not otherwise been recognised. (You must be a member of the Japan Society to nominate). Please follow this link for a list of previous winners of people that have significantly promoted Japanese-UK relations and established cultural links.

Nominations should be made by post to Heidi Potter at the Japan Society offices or by email to heidi.potter at japansociety.org.uk

Thursday, the 1st October 2009, 12.30pm, we note that there is a talk titled: Reforming European Financial Systems: The Process and the Measures that will be given by Graham Bishop, and is organised by JETRO. The talk will examine how the EU creates legislation and its application to Member States, how the international dimension feeds into this process ( for example the G20 meeting on 24/25 September), the influence of Japan on the EU and the influence of the EU on Japanese domestic regulation. For details please contact the Japan Society.

This Saturday we note two sports events: the Collar Cup Golf Match, Japan Society vs JCCI, at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club and a Rugby Match: London Japanese Rugby Club Vs Japan Society XV followed by drinks at the Windsor Castle. This is yet another reason why we encourage our Japanese students to join the Japan Society since you can get involved in sports events!! Members and their families are invited to join this rugby match in Regent's Park. The game will see London Japanese's first team play against a Japan Society XV made up of players from the Japan Society's corporate and individual membership. The match will kick off at 10.30am on the main rugby pitch beside the Hub in Regents Park and be followed by drinks and prize giving at the Windsor Castle Pub, a short walk away on Park Road.

The winning team will receive the winners' cup and a bottle of sake courtesy of our sponsors Akashi-Tai Sake and Shochu which will be presented after the game. As Japan and England will host the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and 2015 respectively this match should provide a fun introduction for those who are new to the game of rugby!

Players Needed! - so if you are reading this contact the Japan Society!!!!
