We love to promote Japanese film at concise courses, (we recently attended a viewing of 'A Story of Love and Hate' that we loved). Next week will be the première of "Departures" by Yojiro Takita, winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film 2009, and many other international accolades, including 10 Japan Academy prize awards, achieving tremendous critical success. The Sci-Fi Surgery has medical robots as the theme for the latest exhibition at the Hunterian Museum, Royal College of Surgeons. President Obama visits Japan and loves matcha ice cream! Also, throughout November 2009 we note a play titled: Peach Boy! The Oxfordshire Theatre Company is touring with a play based on the traditional Japanese folk story Momotaro/Peach Boy to rural communities across England. "Peach Boy: The Adventures of Momotaro" is written by Richard Hurford and integrates Japanese art forms and artists into the company and the production will fuse puppetry, live performance, movement and design, all inspired by the Far East. - Japanese Events in London: 9th - 15th November 2009

There is a lot going on this week. 'A story of love and hate' is being shown at SOAS. This film won the Best International Documentary at the 2009 Norwegian Documentary Film Festival and Special Jury Prize at the 2009 Nodo Doc Fest, Trieste, Italy. The Japanese Conversation Group are meeting up and the Japan Foundation are also hosting a Japanese language event. This week we note two interesting lectures: one on Kyoto, given by one of our previous excellent guest speakers, Pauline Chakmakjian. The second talk is on Japanese Ornithology and will be held at the Oriental Club. Our Japanese language students are in for a treat. To compliment their cultural Anime and Manga cultural class, we encourage them to attend a talk being given by the Hunterian Museum at the The Royal College of Surgeons, on who else but Astro Boy!! Astro-boy is remastered and is being shown as part of the BFI 2009 Film Festival!! This is a must for all Japanophiles and lovers of Manga and Anime to attend. Also, we note a Japanese festival in Brighton, ok, we know that isn't London but it is near enough and cool enough for us to report on. Soil & "Pimp" Sessions in London. These guys are possibly the coolest band to come out of Japan. Ever!? We think so. Real up-tempo Jazz which bags of flavour and energy.
